Bucket List – Colosseum

Visiting Rome has always been something I’ve dreamed about doing and last year I made that dream a reality. The Colosseum is such an interesting part of history that I had my head stuck in a book before even arriving trying to learn as much as I could about the incredible structure.

 The Colosseum held between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators and was mostly known for its gladiatorial contests as well as animal hunts and executions.

In the modern day it is now mostly known for being the most popular tourist attraction in Rome and for good reason.

Arriving before the Colosseum even opens is definitely advised and will hopefully cut your wait time dramatically. Queues have been known to be hours long just to buy a ticket!

I purchased the ticket which entitled me entry to the Colosseum, Roman forum and Palatine hill for 12 Euros and then for an extra 9 euros I booked onto the first English tour of the day.

The tour is especially worth it, not only do you get to hear about where it all happened; you also get to go into restricted parts of the Colosseum so you can see these parts up close.

It was a truly incredible experience and learning about the history of the Colosseum will give you a whole new appreciation for the events that took place right where you are standing.
